About this calculator

How keto macros are set

A ketogenic diet keeps carbohydrate low enough — usually 20–50 g of net carbs a day — that the body shifts to burning fat and producing ketones. The calculator sets carbs first, then protein from your lean body mass, and fills the rest of your calories with fat.

Protein is the number people most often get wrong. Too little costs muscle; moderate amounts (about 1.2–1.7 g per kg of lean mass for active people) do not stop ketosis for most.

Practical notes

  • Count net carbs: total carbohydrate minus fibre.
  • Expect a few days of fatigue ('keto flu') — extra salt and fluids help.
  • Fat is a lever, not a target: eat less of it if weight loss is the goal.
  • Talk to a doctor first if you take medication for diabetes or blood pressure.

Will too much protein kick me out of ketosis?

For most people, moderate protein intake does not prevent ketosis.
