What the Etsy Fee calculator does
This calculator adds up the fees Etsy deducts from a single order, then subtracts your materials and real shipping cost to show profit per sale, profit margin, your payout from Etsy and the lowest item price that breaks even. The fee rates are editable, so you can match your country's payment processing rate or Etsy's current schedule.
The transaction fee and the offsite ads fee apply to what you charge for shipping as well as the item, which is the detail most new sellers miss. Charging $6.50 shipping adds about $0.62 in fees before the label is bought. The default payment processing rate (3% + $0.25) is the US rate; other countries have different rates.

Fee levels come from Etsy's published Fees & Payments Policy and change from time to time, so check the current rates in your shop manager. The calculator does not apply the offsite ads fee's per-order cap, sales tax that Etsy collects and remits, currency conversion fees, or regulatory operating fees charged in some countries; payment processing on sales tax means the real fee can be slightly higher than shown.

Pricing so fees do not eat your profit
- Build fees into the price, not a separate line. At the default rates, roughly 9.5% of every order plus $0.45 goes to Etsy, before any ad fee. Use the break-even price as the floor and add your labor and target profit on top.
- Free shipping does not avoid fees. Fees apply to the higher item price instead of the shipping charge, so the total is similar. Choose based on how buyers respond, not on fees.
- Cheap items are hit hardest by the fixed charges. Multi-item bundles or minimum order sizes spread them out.
- Price for offsite ads. If you cannot opt out, make sure a 12% or 15% ad fee on top still leaves a profit.

Costs the calculator leaves to you
The materials input should include packaging, labels and any per-item supplies, not only the raw materials. Other costs that come out of profit but are not per-order fees: Etsy Ads (onsite advertising) spend, optional subscription plans, shipping labels bought at a different price than your estimate, refunds and returns, and income tax and self-employment tax on your profit. Track them monthly alongside a profit margin for the shop as a whole.
